OSTRAVA, CZECH REPUBLIC - MAY 11: Prisoners harvest honey from beehives at the courtyard of Hermanice prison in Ostrava, Czech Republic, 11 May 2023. Hermanice is one of several prisons in Bohemia that are taking part in the Prison Beekeeping Program, an initiative of the Czech Ministry of Justice and the Prison Service. The first bees have been introduced to Hermanice in April 2017. The inmates are incarcerated on offences ranging from driving offences to much more serious crimes like murder. Beekeeping does not reduce the prisoners’ sentences. The honey produced at Hermanice cannot be sold as the prison is not allowed to engage in sales activities. Instead the honey is donated as a gift to other organizations, and prisoners can give some of their product to relatives. The honey is called 'Brucoun' (lit.: The Grouch). It is slang referring to being 'in the clink'. Lukas Kabon / Anadolu Agency/ABACAPRESS.COM
